From one extreme to the other
Two interesting enquiries yesterday. One from an executor who had been to see a well-established firm of solicitors. The estate consisted of a freehold house and about £50,000 in other assets, and as the house was in a rather nice part of Surrey, the total estate value was in the region of £900,000. The solicitors’ quotation for dealing with the probate was an incredible £27,000. The other call was from an executor who was dealing with a will where the deceased’s ex-wife had been left a legacy of £20.00. The unregulated will-writer had apparently told the deceased that including a legacy of this type would ensure that there was no claim against the estate!
Whether you are administering an estate or preparing your will it does pay dividends to take great care in selecting your adviser.
