The Probate Service

I have been looking today at the last statistics report prepared by the Probate service and it contains some interesting facts. The two most important concerns for users of the service were helpfulness and speed of response. I suppose there is nothing surprising about that but the responses may have been determined by the form of the questionnaire used by the Probate service.

Another interesting fact to emerge was that it takes longer for a lay person to obtain a grant of probate or letters of administration than it does for a firm of solicitors – provided of course that the firm is efficient. One of the reasons for this is that solicitors do not have to undergo a personal interview. Although the cost saving is always attractive there are a number of reasons why the DIY option is not always the most attractive proposition. If you can find a firm of solicitors which strives to be helpful and to be prompt then you should be on to a winner!
